Announcing TrotCon 2017 — July 14-16, 2017, in Columbus, Ohio

July 27, 2016 in Registration by Darkly

We told you this wouldn’t take long.

It’s been a little over a week since TrotCon 2016 ended and only a couple days since our big wrap-up post where we told you that we’d be announcing our plans for 2017 very soon. To tell the truth? We already knew pretty much everything then — the date, location, theme, all that. Just needed the ink to dry before we moved further.

Well, consider the i’s dotted, t’s crossed, toasters still lost in some black hole somewhere. Let’s talk about 2017.

If any of you who attended TrotCon 2016 have our con book handy, please feel free to check out the back cover of it. Eh, or better yet, click here on this tweet from the Friday of this year’s con.

Uh, OK, everything’s looking a little… hm. Definitely looks like whatever civilization our ol’ pal Peanut Bucker stumbled upon has seen better days, that’s for dang sure. Looks like someone had a… falling out.

Hehe. Haha. Whoo boy.

We won’t delay it any longer: TrotCon 2017 will be happening July 14-16 at the Crowne Plaza Columbus North in Columbus, Ohio, and our theme for 2017 is “post-apocalyptic.”

Yeah, yeah, all of the Fallout fans out there are probably going nuts right now. And with good reason! Not only is the Fallout video game series one of the most beloved of all time, but the My Little Pony fandom also has its own opus in Fallout: Equestria. It’s a match made in brony heaven, y’all.

But of course, that’s not all we’re going for with this year’s theme, much like how with last year’s space theme, there was some different Star Wars/Star Trek/Aliens vibes going on, but they certainly weren’t limitations on what you could plan for the year. Along with other great post-apocalyptic-flavored media such as Mad Max, The Walking Dead and much more, we of course encourage all of you out there to play with the theme in the best way you see fit. Major points for creativity!

You know we wouldn’t get through another year without factions, though. Last year, we pitted the Solar Empire versus the Lunar Republic. This year, we’re adding a third to the mix. You’ll have a choice, upon pre-registration, of being either a Raider, a Steel Ranger or a Stable Dweller. Yep, we made it even tougher to choose a side this year. Maybe it won’t be a runaway victory for one side this year, eh?

OK, next on the agenda: badges. They’re officially for sale! As with previous years, we’re breaking up pre-registration into multiple tiers. Purchase between now and Sept. 9 and you’ll be able to snag a weekend (Friday-Sunday) pass for $30. After that? They’ll be $40 until Jan. 31, and then $50 through June 20, when pre-reg closes for the year. At-door registration will be $60 — twice as much as it is right now, in case you needed more of a reason to purchase earlier rather than later.

As usual, we’ll also have multiple sponsor badge tiers, running from the $100 earth pony tier to the $2,000, limited-edition draconequus tier. Same idea as last year, really. For more information on what comes with each sponsor tier, our website has all the details.

And of course, single-day passes will be available at the door, as they have been in previous years. Same prices, too: $30 for Friday, $40 for Saturday and $20 for Sunday.

Hm… let’s see, anything else? Oh, RIGHT, duh: our con store is officially back up and running, with pins, plushes and more from 2016 and even before then now available. Snag ’em before they’re gone forever (or until we inevitably give some out at a raffle, whichever comes first).

That’s all for now, but don’t think you won’t be hearing from us for a while. We’re already neck deep into planning for 2017, and we’ve been talking to a few potential guests. When we have some official announcements to make — and we think that won’t be too long from now — we’ll be whispering into your ear yet again. You like it, don’t you? Yeah, you do.

In the meantime, you should definitely follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr and Snapchat (username TrotCon), as well as join our Discord server.

Talk soon! <3

Thanks for coming to TrotCon 2016!

July 21, 2016 in Thank You by Darkly

TrotCon’s in the books, y’all. Crazy to think that a week ago we were setting up for 2016, about to get pre-registration pickup ready, generally preparing to have a heck of a good time.

And you know what? We did.

Like, seriously, we’re not just saying that. On the whole, this is probably the most fun we as staff have ever had bringing super happy pony fun times to the masses. Setbacks? Minimal. Disorganization? Eh, we had a few hiccups, but things went smoothly. Shoot, despite a few last-minute cancellations on the panelist front, not to mention one of our VIP guests having to shorten her stay by a day, everything went strangely fine. We’re still sitting here in awe thinking about it.

Hey, after five years, guess it was bound to happen, right?

So here’s the rundown, pones: TrotCon happened over July 15-17 this year, with it being our second time at the Crowne Plaza Columbus North here in Columbus, Ohio. Between five VIPs, six community guests, scores of panels happening all through the night, 60 vendors and 10 musicians, we managed an overall attendance of 950 people (yes, yes, slightly different from the number announced at closing ceremonies. Long story short, make sure you’re counting all your badge categories, mkay? Aight.).

Down from last year? Yeah, but we expected it, with BronyCon, the largest brony convention and one of the best to ever do it, smack dab a weekend before us. How could we not figure a good chunk of folks were gonna do just one? — after all, that’s what many of you told us, with the promise to come back next year if the fates aligned. Many of you continued to express that sentiment throughout the weekend and even so far this week.

Good thing, too — because we’re coming back next year!

No, we can’t announce the dates yet. Contracts and all that ish, y’all, we swear. We do have a date and location, though, so fret ya not. Once the ink is dry, we’ll be announcing our dates for 2017 and tossin’ up that good ol’ registration link for pre-registration badges. And here’s a little hint: if you’ve been coming the last two years to TrotCon, you can probably already narrow it down to one of the weekends, if not the specific weekend we’ll be trotting back to Columbus. Coltumbus? We really should start using that pun again.

Really quick, before we call 2016 a wrap: some thanks are in order — to our wonderful staff and the gophers who helped out at-con this year, for your immeasurable contributions before the convention and at it, and for keeping everything running every hour between 7 a.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Sunday; to our musicians, who threw down one of the best concerts we’ve seen at a con, no doubt; to everyone who ran or participated in a panel, because we wouldn’t be able to have rad things for people to do at the con without you; to the vendors and artists who took time out of their weekend to fill up our artist’s alley and give our guests a varied roster of different things to admire and purchase — you all should be proud of the work you’ve done.

Oh, and of course, to all our attendees: thanks for still coming out after all these years. We’re sad we only get to see you once a year, but we thank you for making it one of the best weekends of our lives when we do.

Now, as for next year: we already have a theme picked out, which we’ll announce once we officially reveal our dates, venue and the like for 2017. Spoiler, though? There’s a very big hint in our con book from 2016. You should read it. Cover to cover. Just sayin’.

Talk soon. Really soon, probably. And thanks again.

TrotCon’s This Weekend! Come on Out!

July 14, 2016 in Thank You by Darkly

Well, we did it again. TrotCon 2016 is upon us.

We’re really excited for this year. Like, too excited. John de Lancie’s coming. Ingrid Nilson’s coming. Heather Breckel. Thom Zahler. G.M. Berrow.

Community guests such as Pixelkitties, Wiggles, TJ Carson, ILoveKPaLot, ChocoPony and The Brony Critic.

A stacked musician lineup including Chang31ing, Crusader, Notica, DJ PinkamenaX, end_of_file, JesusKidz, PonyFireStone, GTGoggles, StrachAttack and IvoryBrony.

Tons of panels running all weekend starting Friday afternoon. 24 hours a day, baby. We don’t sleep until Sunday at 6 p.m.

A 60-table artist alley with one of the best selections of vendors, artists and more that we’ve ever had the privilege of assembling.

Agh, how could we NOT be excited?

So here’s the deal: TrotCon officially begins this Friday, July 15, with registration opening at 7 a.m. (However, if you pre-registered for 2016, you can stop by between 9 p.m. and midnight on Thursday night. Please do, in fact!) If you haven’t purchased a badge yet, that’s totally fine! We offer registration at the door, with Friday-Sunday passes at $55 (with kids 12 and under free with the purchase of an adult pass). We’ll also have single-day badges available for $30 for Friday, $40 for Saturday and $20 for Sunday.

Our full schedule for the weekend is here. Keep an eye on the online version, as it may be subject to change (though we’ll do our best to avoid such changes!). We also have a listing on the Guidebook app — download it, look for TrotCon. As a reminder, the Dr Whooves and Assistant panel is canceled, with a replacement to be announced at the con, and G.M. Berrow has unfortunately been moved to Saturday and Sunday only, meaning her panel spot on Friday has been taken over by Thom Zahler.

Any questions? Comments? Cause for discussion? Email us at info@trotcon.net, or shoot us a message on social media. We’re on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram and Snapchat (username Trotcon). We’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

Otherwise, we hope to see you at the convention this weekend. We think it’s gonna be a rip-roarin’ time, and we want you to be there with us. We open for business at 7 a.m. Friday for registration and close Sunday at 6 p.m. In between? Lots and lots of pony.

See you here.

Announcing the Summer 2016 CN Media Contest with Canterlot Networks!

July 7, 2016 in Contest by Darkly

Hey, homies. Exciting news.

We’ve partnered up with our friends at Canterlot Networks to host the first Summer CN Media Contest!

If you’re attending TrotCon 2016, you’ll be eligible to join the contest. If you’re passionate about making videos, or just interested in the prize, we encourage you to join!

The Summer 2016 CN Media Contest will be hosted on days 1 and 2 (July 15 and 16) of TrotCon 2016. The contest is promoting CN’s latest website, CanterStream, which is set to release by the end of this year. CanterStream aims to connect the brony community through livestreams, live chats and podcasts.

The theme of the contest is “The TrotCon Experience.” What you will have to do for the contest is vlog around the convention. Whether you have the coolest DSLR on the planet, or simply a smartphone, you can join. Simply film yourself and surroundings at TrotCon, describe what TrotCon is like to the world, upload the video/videos onto YouTube and share the link(s) of the video/videos on Twitter!

When you tweet the link to your video, be sure to include #CanterStream and #Summer2016CNMC so that we can enter your video into the contest!

Each video must be at least two minutes long. Every video you post obligates you to one entry into the contest, so the more videos you make, the more chances you get at winning! On July 17, North, the founder of Canterlot Networks, will pick the winner of the contest. The winner will be announced at the closing ceremony and on the TrotCon Twitter.

So, what exactly is the prize? The prize is a “media starter kit” that has been hand-picked by North. The media starter kit includes a 16GB Class 10 SanDisk SD card, a power bank and a Joby GripTight GorillaPod stand. This kit should be able to get you started on the road to horse fame!

To enter, tweet us at @TrotCon and @CanterlotNetwks with the following message:

I’d like to join the Summer 2016 CN Media Contest! @TrotCon @CanterlotNetwks #CanterStream #Summer2016CNMC

So, what are you waiting for? Show us what you’ve got!
