Guest Announcement #2

January 11, 2017 in Guest Announcement, Programming, Registration by Darkly

OK, friends! Guest announcement number two.

First of all: been a while, yes? Don’t worry, we’re still around — just a lot of behind-the-scenes work since our last announcement. We’ll be bothering you much, much more from here on out; you’ll be sick of us again before you know it!

One VIP and one community guest to reveal today. Y’all ready?

Let’s start with the former. Our guy has actually never been with us before, but he was… supposed to be. It’s complicated. TrotCon veterans (aka, anyone who’s been around since 2013) will remember that we announced him as a special guest, only to have an unfortunate semi-last-minute cancellation keep him from visiting Columbus — even though he ended up phoning in for a panel. So, you know, little victories.

Second time’s the charm, we hope: we’re happy to announce Lee Tockar for TrotCon 2017!

*ravenous applause*

Tockar’s a veteran of the scene, of course. He appeared in the first episode of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic as fan favorite Steven Magnet. You’ve since heard him in a number of smaller roles on the show, including Snips, Spot (one of the Diamond Dogs) an in a truly magnificent turn as Gummy in the 100th episode. We’re still reeling from the existential crises brought about by his monologue in that last one. Keeps us up at night.

As with pretty much any actor out there, Tockar has much more on his resume than My Little Pony. You might recognize him as the titular character in season one of George of the Jungle, as Roach in the current DHX production Supernoobs, Urp in YTV’s Nerds and Monsters, Yakkity Yak in Nickelodeon’s Yakkity Yak, plus much, much more. You could spend a day in his IMDB page.

Additionally, Tockar is the founder/CEO of FanBuilt Productions (which, if you attended in 2013, you’ll recall as the topic of his panel).

He’ll be in attendance at TrotCon 2017 to answer your burning questions about voice acting, working in television and film — the whole nine yards, y’all. Panels, meet-and-greets, autographs, you’re gonna be s-e-t.

Now… how about a community guest?

You might already know a little bit about them from some of our teasers of their work. Well, let’s make it official: we’re excited to have Harmony Studios at TrotCon 2017!

Harmony Studios, founded by Victor Vortex in 2014, is an animation collective creating videos for the MLP community, from shorts to PMVs and everything in between. In fact, they’re actually creating a bit of a special video for TrotCon, which you’ll see at the convention this year. You like our comic, drawn by convention artist AylaStarDragon, we’ve been putting up? Then you’re gonna love this, too. Trust us.

They’ll be on hand (on… hoof? After six years, you’d think we would’ve figured this out by now) for panels as well! If you want to learn a little bit about how to do your own animation, they’re gonna be a great resource.

Lee Tockar and Harmony Studios join Peter New as the guests announced so far for TrotCon 2017. And since we’re just a few days from being six months out from our 2017 date, you can bet we’re going to be ramping up our announcements going forward.

In the meantime: we’ve got applications for staff, musicians, vendors and panelists live on the site. There’s also badges to buy — and prices are gonna go up on Jan. 31, so if you want a weekend pass for $40, you should probably get to it soon.

TrotCon will be held July 14-16, 2017, at the Crowne Plaza Columbus North in Columbus, Ohio!

Announcing TrotCon 2017 — July 14-16, 2017, in Columbus, Ohio

July 27, 2016 in Registration by Darkly

We told you this wouldn’t take long.

It’s been a little over a week since TrotCon 2016 ended and only a couple days since our big wrap-up post where we told you that we’d be announcing our plans for 2017 very soon. To tell the truth? We already knew pretty much everything then — the date, location, theme, all that. Just needed the ink to dry before we moved further.

Well, consider the i’s dotted, t’s crossed, toasters still lost in some black hole somewhere. Let’s talk about 2017.

If any of you who attended TrotCon 2016 have our con book handy, please feel free to check out the back cover of it. Eh, or better yet, click here on this tweet from the Friday of this year’s con.

Uh, OK, everything’s looking a little… hm. Definitely looks like whatever civilization our ol’ pal Peanut Bucker stumbled upon has seen better days, that’s for dang sure. Looks like someone had a… falling out.

Hehe. Haha. Whoo boy.

We won’t delay it any longer: TrotCon 2017 will be happening July 14-16 at the Crowne Plaza Columbus North in Columbus, Ohio, and our theme for 2017 is “post-apocalyptic.”

Yeah, yeah, all of the Fallout fans out there are probably going nuts right now. And with good reason! Not only is the Fallout video game series one of the most beloved of all time, but the My Little Pony fandom also has its own opus in Fallout: Equestria. It’s a match made in brony heaven, y’all.

But of course, that’s not all we’re going for with this year’s theme, much like how with last year’s space theme, there was some different Star Wars/Star Trek/Aliens vibes going on, but they certainly weren’t limitations on what you could plan for the year. Along with other great post-apocalyptic-flavored media such as Mad Max, The Walking Dead and much more, we of course encourage all of you out there to play with the theme in the best way you see fit. Major points for creativity!

You know we wouldn’t get through another year without factions, though. Last year, we pitted the Solar Empire versus the Lunar Republic. This year, we’re adding a third to the mix. You’ll have a choice, upon pre-registration, of being either a Raider, a Steel Ranger or a Stable Dweller. Yep, we made it even tougher to choose a side this year. Maybe it won’t be a runaway victory for one side this year, eh?

OK, next on the agenda: badges. They’re officially for sale! As with previous years, we’re breaking up pre-registration into multiple tiers. Purchase between now and Sept. 9 and you’ll be able to snag a weekend (Friday-Sunday) pass for $30. After that? They’ll be $40 until Jan. 31, and then $50 through June 20, when pre-reg closes for the year. At-door registration will be $60 — twice as much as it is right now, in case you needed more of a reason to purchase earlier rather than later.

As usual, we’ll also have multiple sponsor badge tiers, running from the $100 earth pony tier to the $2,000, limited-edition draconequus tier. Same idea as last year, really. For more information on what comes with each sponsor tier, our website has all the details.

And of course, single-day passes will be available at the door, as they have been in previous years. Same prices, too: $30 for Friday, $40 for Saturday and $20 for Sunday.

Hm… let’s see, anything else? Oh, RIGHT, duh: our con store is officially back up and running, with pins, plushes and more from 2016 and even before then now available. Snag ’em before they’re gone forever (or until we inevitably give some out at a raffle, whichever comes first).

That’s all for now, but don’t think you won’t be hearing from us for a while. We’re already neck deep into planning for 2017, and we’ve been talking to a few potential guests. When we have some official announcements to make — and we think that won’t be too long from now — we’ll be whispering into your ear yet again. You like it, don’t you? Yeah, you do.

In the meantime, you should definitely follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr and Snapchat (username TrotCon), as well as join our Discord server.

Talk soon! <3

SPACE!!! and Pixelkitties!

August 10, 2015 in Guest Announcement, Registration, Theme by Darkly

Hey, friends. Got some information for you. You probably know some of it, but not everything. Listen up. Turn off that new Dr. Dre album for like two seconds.

It’s been almost a month since TrotCon 2015 ended — thanks again for coming, you guys are the best — and we’re already gearing up for 2016. We’ve got a venue to talk to, potential guests to call, badges to sell, applications to take very soon… yeah, it’s already getting busy on the old homestead.

Let’s start with what most of you already know: our theme. If you’ve been on our website or seen our social media in the last 24 hours, you’ve already seen the switchover from magic (which we’ll miss! A lot!). What’s this year’s, you ask, as though the posted art wasn’t a dead giveaway?

How’s space sound? Sound good? Aside from the whole no-one-can-hear-you-scream think, that is.

So in 2016, the official theme of TrotCon will be space, as we announced at this year’s closing ceremonies! As with past years, the theme is 100 percent not mandatory; instead, it’s a fun thing for us to consider when we’re planning events and decor, and for you to factor in when you create your cosplays. Get thinking, by the way! 11 months to go!

What we’re possibly most excited about the space theme just has to be how we’re splitting all of you up for 2016, like we did in 2015 with the different houses pertaining to the princesses (Lunaris, Solaris, Eros and Umbra!). This year, there are but two: the Lunar Republic (Luna!) and the Solar Empire (that’ll be Celestia, y’all). Choose wisely your allegiances. They’re gonna mean a lot at this year’s con. More than they ever did in 2015.

Oh, as for the thing you didn’t already know: we have our first guest!
Remember when Pixelkitties, one of the fandom’s most respected artists who came out to TrotCon in 2012, 2013 and 2014, was announced for 2015 but had to cancel? Well, we hoped we could snag her again for 2016 — and guess what? It’s happening. She’s happening! Pixelkitties will head out to TrotCon 2016 not just as a vendor but also as one of our fandom guests. You’ll be able to purchase some of her amazing wares — art, sure, but there’s so much more! — as well as find her around the convention and on a panel or two. Maybe you’ll get into a 30-minute exchange about craft beer, too. It could happen, only on The Hub! (Disclaimer: It can’t happen on The Hub anymore. RIP.)

One last thing: applications for vendors, musicians, panelists and staff are not up yet. But they’re going to be! We’ll let you know when, but they’ll be available in early September at the very latest.
And that’s just the beginning, y’all. More fandom guests. More VIPs. More EVERYTHING! It’s gonna rock.
Sound like fun? Pre-registration for 2016 is now open, with $30 weekend passes available through Sept. 21. That’s three days of pony fun for less money than it’ll be if you buy at the door, even if you buy for only Saturday! Food for thought, eh?

Also, we have a newsletter now. Sign up at http://tinyletter.com/trotcon. You know you wanna.

Thank you!

July 23, 2015 in Registration, Thank You by Darkly

First and foremost, thanks everyone for a fantastic 2015. We had a blast and we hope you did tooWe got, dare we say it, 20% BIGGER this year. This year, we had 1200 attendees, our best numbers ever. Obviously we can’t do that without you, so thanks for showing up and having a good time with us.

Can we do it next year? Let’s find out! Next year, we’ll be held July 15-17 at the Crowne Plaza Columbus North here in Columbus, Ohio. Y’know, in other words, virtually the same time, same place.

Registration’s already open for 2016! It will be $30 until August 31st. We also have the sponsor tiers available as well. The perks for those will be announced within the next month.

Steffan Andrews!

May 4, 2015 in Guest Announcement, Registration by Darkly

Let’s have a little discussion about music in My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.

We’re not talking brony musicians, though they’re some cool cats we’ll be announcing sometime VERY, very soon. Nor is Daniel Ingram part of the equation–but again, nice guy. Good songs.

Steffan Andrews? Yeah, that’s our man.

We’re bringing Steffan to TrotCon for the very first time this July in Columbus!

You’ll know him from the music department of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, helping create and orchestrate background music, scores and songs part of the show’s canon. That work scored him a Daytime Emmy for “May the Best Pet Win,” as well as Leo Awards for the score of “Magical Mystery Cure,” along with another nomination for “Pinkie Pride.”

Of course, that’s not all Andrews does. Steffan works in a similar role for Littlest Pet Shop, Pound Puppies and Martha Speaks as well, among other TV productions, and also scored the PlayStation, Wii and Xbox game “FaceBreaker.”

With Steffan in attendance, you’ll get an inside look at how some of your favorite songs and sounds of MLP are created, along with other behind-the-scenes tips and tricks to go along with our other already-announced guests from the show staff.

He joins a VIP guest lineup we’re very, very excited about, including M.A. Larson, Heather Breckel, Kelly Sheridan, G.M. Berrow, Brian and Brynna Drummond, plus community talent like PirateDash, ChocoPony, Emily Jones and PonyToast!

They’ll all be at TrotCon 2015, to be held July 17-19 at the Crowne Plaza Columbus North in Columbus, Ohio. Join us for our fourth year! Badges are currently $45 for the weekend through June 15, with sponsor badges also available that include meet-and-greets with our VIP guests, special perks and prizes, plus much more!

Special Announcement!

March 12, 2015 in Registration by Darkly

Special announcement for all y’all ponies who have pre-registered for TrotCon 2015 and those of you who are thinking of doing so!

We’re excited to reveal that those who pre-register for the convention will be automatically entered for a chance to win various door prizes at the con, including — in keeping with our theme of magic — a replica of our super rad and totally magical mascot Peanut Bucker’s wand!

PBsWand-Preview

The other prizes of varying sizes, shapes, appendages and uses will be revealed as we get closer to TrotCon (July 17-19, if you’ll recall!).

One catch: you gotta be present at opening ceremonies to claim your prize, in addition to having pre-registered. Only those who have fulfilled both categories will be able to win a prize.

Pre-registration closes June 15, so you’ve got some time — but not TOO much time! Don’t put this off too much longer, yeah?

TrotCon 2015 will be held July 17-19 at the Crowne Plaza Columbus North in Columbus, Ohio. So far, Brian Drummond, Brynna Drummond, G.M. Berrow, Heather Breckel and a score of community guests are part of our lineup… and trust us, there’s more up our sleeve.

Two New Guests!

January 28, 2015 in Guest Announcement, Registration by Darkly

Friends, life isn’t all about My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

OK, so maybe it is for some of you—and it’s certainly our main focus here at TrotCon, too. But one of our two new guests at TrotCon 2015 has quite the impressive resume outside of ponies, so much so that we simply couldn’t resist having him out.

In 2015, we’ll be having Brian Drummond, a man of many voices, at TrotCon!

You may best know Brian for his work as Vegeta in the Ocean Studios English dub of Dragon Ball Z, along with tons of other prominent anime roles, including Ryuk in Death Note, Renkotsu in InuYasha and Zechs Merquise in Gundam Wing. For real, dude gets around.

But that’s not all! Brian has lent his voice to quite the rundown of characters in MLP:FiM, most prominent among them Carrot Cake (or Mr. Cake, if you will) and Filthy Rich, along with a score of other roles like Ahuizotl and even Dr. Hooves in an early episode. He also threw it down as Spike in pre-FiM content The Princess Promenade, Crystal Princess: The Runaway Rainbow and My Little Pony Live: The World’s Biggest Tea Party. Where you at, G3 fans?!

As for our other guest? Let’s keep it in the family, shall we?

We’ll also be bringing Brynna Drummond to TrotCon 2015! You’ll know her as lil ol’ Babs Seed from the Apple family, the fourth member of the Cutie Mark Crusaders. Get ready to sing the song. The “Babs Seed” song. It’s gonna happen.

It’s gonna happen hard.

Fancy a visit with the Drummonds? Come on down to TrotCon 2015, held July 17-19 at the Crowne Plaza Columbus North. Badges are currently $45 for the whole weekend—and guess what? We’re not done announcing guests. No, sir/madam.

Community Guests and Musician Applications!

November 6, 2014 in Guest Announcement, Registration by Darkly

Want to hear something practically insane? It’s already been over four months since TrotCon 2014, and boy, do we miss all of you so.

So we decided: why not tide everyone over with our first guest announcement of 2014?

We’re proud to announce that TrotCon 2015 will feature Pixelkitties and TJ Carson, aka Pirate Dash, as guests of honor!

TrotCon 2015 marks the fourth time we’ve put on a My Little Pony convention in Columbus, Ohio, and Pixelkitties has been there since the beginning. If you’ve spent even just a day on a pony imageboard or browsing through the most delectable My Little Pony art, you’ve seen her work – we’ll bet a few bits on that. She’ll be here again to peddle her wares, from art and prints to other gratifying goodies, plus expect her to appear on a panel or two as well.

TJ Carson’s in his second year at TrotCon as a guest of honor. You’ll know him from Tumblr, as moderator of Ask Pirate Dash and Ask Mic Boom – so if you’re a Tumblrpon or want to know more about that community, he’s the dude to say, ‘Sup?’ to. He’ll be holding down some Tumblr- and pony-related programming all the weekend long.

Oh, and what’s that you say? You’re a musician? That’s pretty far out, cowboy, because we’re looking for any and all interested musicians for our 2015 music festivities! Last year we had dozens of artists performing over two nights, and we’re hoping to bring down the house again in 2015 – though not literally, because that might get messy. Interested in applying or know someone who’d be perfect for the job? Hit ’em up at http://trotcon.net/registration/music-app/ for more info.

And on that note, don’t forget panel, vendor and staff applications are currently up on our website! Apply there or email trot@trotcon.net for information on how to get up in front of people at TrotCon 2015.

Sound rad? Nice, really nice. We’ll be held July 17-19, 2015, at our new home of the Crowne Plaza Columbus North in Columbus, Ohio. Badges for the weekend currently run $35 through January, with multiple tiers of sponsor badges available as well over at our registration page – http://trotcon.net/registration/.

TrotCon 2015 Dates and Location

September 21, 2014 in Hotel, Registration, Theme by Darkly

TrotCon is moving!

Well, OK, maybe not moving very much. We’re not going to be in another city or state, leaping across the country to lay claim to some other pony domain.

So, what’s happening? Simple: after ponying our hearts out for the last two years at the Sheraton at Capitol Square in downtown Columbus, Ohio, in June, we’ll be heading a few minutes north on I-71 to our home for 2015: the Crowne Plaza Columbus North!

What’s more? Instead of throwing it down in June, we’ll be held in July – July 17-19, 2015, to be exact – kind of like 2012, when we first started going insane and running a convention based on My Little Pony.

Whew. Now that we got that out of the way….

At our new home at the Crowne Plaza, we’ll be offering a discounted room rate of $95 to attendees! To do so, you must call 614-885-1885 to book and mention TrotCon. We know, we know – phone calls are hard. But you’ll manage; just think of how much fun you’ll be having at TrotCon this July while picking up that phone!

As of today, our vendor, panel and staff applications are now open as well on our website. Hit us up if you’d like to sell your super cool wares or present a panel on something you’re passionate about (hey, doesn’t have to be pony-related – really!), or if you’d like to help make TrotCon the very best event it can be in 2015. Experience running or helping conventions in the past? Awesome. None? Still awesome! Musician applications will be available soon as well.

We’d also love to introduce a new concept for TrotCon 2015. If you’re not already aware of our magic theme for next year, well, hey, our theme is magic! And going along with that, we’ll be taking a page from some book series we hear is OK called Harry Potter and introducing a cool new way to compete against your friends at TrotCon.

Here’s the idea: we’ll be separating all of you into different houses for TrotCon, a decision over which you’ll have some control – more on that very soon! You’ll have the opportunity to join whichever house you want – or be completely unsorted; live your life! – with a handy little quiz helping you on your way.

What are the houses? Check ’em out!

-Lunaris: Thy night hath glimmering descended, Those of Lunaris awake shall remain, Of Princess Luna they hath depended, Training in the forgotten and arcane!

-Solaris: Bright as the sun at midday, Those of Solaris shall avail, To Princess Celestia they will stay, Her faithful students will prevail!

-Umbra: Thru steady work and ample toil, Those of Umbra are not tragic, To Princess Twilight they are loyal, For they know that Friendship is Magic!

-Eros: Steeped in the dark magicks of yore, Those of Eros will never fall, Princess Cadance whispers the lore, The truth that love conquers all!

Yep, that’s right: rather than have you declare your favorite type of pony, you’ll be choosing your allegiance to one of the four princesses of Equestria. Choose wisely, mortal.

What will the houses entail? We have some ideas up our sleeve – check back as we get closer to the convention, won’t ya?

Does all this tickle your fancy? Sweet action, dude, because pre-registration for TrotCon 2015 is officially open! Pre-registration badge prices will run this year for $25 through $45, with sponsor badges of varying levels available as well!

Come on out and spend the kind of middle but also kind of toward the end of July with your fine pony friends at TrotCon!
