Maud Pie & ChocoPony Are Coming to TrotCon. How Exciting.

May 3, 2016 in Guest Announcement by Darkly

Our next VIP guest shares more than one distinction with John de Lancie, our already-announced MLP guest for TrotCon 2016.

First of all, both voice characters on My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. Which, you know, you probably could have already guessed.

The other similarity? Well, if you’ve been with us since 2012 (and if you have, mad props!), you know already that John de Lancie, best known for our purposes as the voice of Discord, has never visited TrotCon before now. Same goes, as it happens, for our next guest, too.

We’re incredibly excited to welcome Ingrid Nilson to TrotCon 2016!

Fans of MLP will recognize Nilson as the voice of Maud Pie, Pinkie Pie’s sister who’s appeared in multiple episodes since season 4. She also snagged the roles of Limestone and Marble Pie in the “Hearthbreakers” episode from last season.

Basically, if you want to get as many members of the Pie family under your roof at one time, she’s your gal!

Of course, Nilson has plenty of credits outside MLP. If you’re a fan of the Strawberry Shortcake TV and movie series, she’s voiced Raspberry Torte since 2009. She also appeared as Sloane in Barbie in Rock ‘N Royals, among many other titles. Singer and dancer, too. You’ll have a lot to talk about.

Throughout TrotCon, she’ll be on hand to visit panels, sign autographs and generally hang out. You know the drill by now.

ALSO, how about community guests? Already have a few announced, have PLENTY more coming down the pipe. But for today in particular, we’d like to give a shoutout to a returning special guest for TrotCon 2016, ChocoPony!

If you attended our 2015 convention, chances are you either met him or saw his work in our Artist Alley or even with the awesome limited edition coins given to some of our sponsor badge holders last year. If you didn’t get your hands on his fine crafts there or at the other conventions he’s popped up at over the last few months, well, now’s your chance. Tarot decks, card games, all kinds of goodies —  you’re gonna want to check him out.

Our two new guests will join John de Lancie, the always-wonderful Heather Breckel and other awesome return fandom guests Pixelkitties and TJ Carson at TrotCon 2016, and we’re not done yet. We should probably hurry it up, though. Con’s in like two and a half months.

What can you expect from us next? We’re currently finalizing our list of vendors and musicians for 2016, and our panelist applications are live until May 20. We’re also still accepting staff help for 2016. You should apply. You’re cool. We like you. Yes, even you.

Please welcome… Heather Breckel!

March 13, 2016 in Guest Announcement by Darkly

If you’ve been coming to TrotCon for the last few years, you’ll know our next guest quite, quite well.

She’s had a hand in creating the finished product of some of the fantastic My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic comic books published by IDW — please welcome Heather Breckel to TrotCon 2016!

Heather’s been coming out to TrotCon since 2013, and she’s been a virtual no-brainer for us to have back ever since. First of all, she’s tremendous at her job — colorist for IDW’s MLP comics, meaning she holds down the important task of bringing all your favorite characters to life through magnificent color! Then, of course, being a resident of our home base of Columbus, Ohio, ain’t too shabby either.

You’ll have the chance to meet Heather and learn more about a slightly different MLP medium than that of the TV show, but remember, she’s no one-trick pony! Heather has also worked as a colorist for editions in the Teenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesGodzillaStar Wars and Peter Panzerfaust franchises, among many more, and she’s also a tremendous artist — she even has her own digital comic called Angie Ruins Fire Emblem!

Come shoot the breeze with Heather this summer. Talk about some ponies. Maybe some cats. You know you wanna.

ALSO: Calling all prospective vendors! Yeah, you, with the things to sell! Want to put a price tag on your wares and truck them off to TrotCon 2016? A friendly, but firm, reminder: in just over a month, registration for our artist alley will be closed for good! April 15 at 11:59 p.m. ET is the specific date and time.

So many of you have already put in applications, but if you haven’t already and have any sort of desire to come to Columbus in the dead of July, well, our door’s open! Because, you know, it’s really hot out, and we need the door open to get that outdoor breeze in. You understand, right? No, no, we don’t think it’s going to blow anything over. It might create a wind tunnel effect, but hey, the kids seem to be enjoying it.

Apply to vend at TrotCon 2016 here! Also, a reminder that panelist applications will close May 20, while musician applications end May 1.

Solar Empire or Lunar Republic

February 19, 2016 in Theme by Darkly

Faction-Artwork-Small

OK, reminder: Solar Empire. Lunar Republic. Remember? Those are the two factions you’ll be able to join for TrotCon 2016, pledging your undying love to either Princess Celestia or Princess Luna. You’ll be able to score points for your faction, do battle against your worthy foes (well, you know, within reason) and help the pony community decide, once and for all, which is best.

We’re pumped, y’all. In fact, we’re so pumped — or stoked, or psyched, or whatever you want to call it — that we wanted to share with you some awesome art for our factions, including the official logos for the Solar Empire and Lunar Republic!

Cool stuff, right? While at TrotCon 2016, you’ll have the opportunity to purchase the logos of the factions to which you’ve sworn allegiance, so that anyone in your general direction will be able to tell just which princess you think is best princess.

Lunar Republic-Small  Solar Empire-small

By the way, that rad art up top? Courtesy of our wonderful, amazing, wickedly talented convention artist AylaStarDragon. You’ll be able to purchase many things from her at the convention this year, and we highly recommend you do so.

So, spill it: who do you support? We’re only five months from TrotCon 2016, so it’s time to start solidifying your loyalties.

Pre-reg for 2016 is still available! Right now, we’re offering weekend passes for $50, with sponsor badges available at various tiers. All applications for 2016 are also up on our site, including forms for staff, panelists, musicians, artists and press.

We’re gearing up for a good time this summer. Hope you’re there to experience it with us.

Special Event featuring John de Lancie

January 14, 2016 in Guest Announcement, Programming by Darkly

So, John de Lancie is coming to TrotCon. You might have heard about it. You might have heard of him. You might have heard of TrotCon. If not, hi, we’re TrotCon. And we have John de Lancie stopping by in July.

With an actor as prolific and multi-talented as de Lancie, who you might know best as the voice of Discord on My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic or Q on Star Trek, we simply had to do something fun with him aside from the usual panels you’ve come to expect — which is why we’re exceedingly excited to announce a special ticketed event during TrotCon 2016: “In Defense of Poetry” with John de Lancie.

What’s up with poetry and why is John de Lancie appearing at an event on it? Simple: he’s got an essay of the same name and he wants to share it with you. Afterward, he’s looking to have a discussion with attendees on poetry and the like, with John speaking to his own connections with learning to read, poetry and much, much more. He’ll even read a couple of other poems during the one-and-a-half-hour engagement.

This isn’t like normal events, and as such there will be a $20 charge to enter “In Defense of Poetry,” doable either on Eventbrite before the convention or at the door. However, tickets are included if you purchase an Alicorn- or Draconequus-tier sponsor badge. Haven’t gotten one of those? What are you waiting for?! It’s badges like these that help us to bring you more awesome pony content each year, like John de Lancie this year and such great folks as Andrea Libman, Kelly Sheridan, M.A. Larson, Peter New and much more in the past.

Oh, also, before we forget! Official prices for John de Lancie autograph vouchers are here. They’ll be $30 each, and you can also purchase on Eventbrite before the convention if you so choose.

We’ve got John de Lancie, a score of community guests including Pixelkitties and TJ Carson of Ask Pirate Dash, and we’re not done yet. Keep an eye on trotcon.net, y’all — we’re six months away and we’re pleased as punch to bring you another convention for the fifth time.

John de Lancie comes to TrotCon!

November 10, 2015 in Guest Announcement, Programming by Darkly

In the four years since TrotCon became a thing, we’ve brought you a heaping helping of esteemed guests from the My Little Pony community, from our share of splendid community guests to fan-favorite official folks like M.A. Larson, Andrea Libman, Kelly Sheridan, Peter New, Dave Polsky, Brian Drummond, Brynna Drummond, Steffan Andrews and Heather Breckel.

And in 2016, we’re adding a new face to that list. Don’t worry, it’s one with whom you’re most familiar. You know, if you dig horns, a snaggletooth, yellow eyes and all that.

For TrotCon 2016, we’re bringing Discord himself, John de Lancie, to Columbus, Ohio!

Within the MLP fandom, you know de Lancie best for his turn as the sometimes-heinous, sometimes-snuggly, sometimes-villain Discord, who’s gone from Princess Celestia’s greatest foe (and a snazzy lawn ornament) to something like everyone’s favorite uncle who pops up a few times a year (see: season) to bejewel us with his presence, with a few practical jokes along the way.

Of course, there’s way more to de Lancie than Discord. The longtime actor first came to prominence as Q in multiple iterations of Star Trek, including eight episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation. He’s also lent his vocal talents to Invader Zim, The Angry Beavers and more, and has appeared in dozens of TV shows and films, along with multiple roles on stage.

You’ll have plenty of opportunities to meet de Lancie next July, whether it’s at autograph signing or during panels — the contents of which we’ll reveal soon, but trust us, you’re going to like these. He’ll also be available as part of some of our VIP events, which you — yes, you! — can attend as a higher-tier sponsor badge holder at TrotCon 2016.

That’s not all: We have a community guest announcement for you, too! Boy howdy!

We’ll be welcoming back TJ Carson, aka Pirate Dash, to TrotCon next year! Carson, who you’ll likely remember as a guest this year as well, is best known as the moderator of Ask Pirate Dash — and a rad artist, to boot. Find him at panels around the convention or even as part of our vendor hall with Pirate Dash’s Treasures. He joins our already-announced community guest, Pixelkitties!

Also, calling all artists! Wanna join Pirate Dash and Pixelkitties in selling your wares at TrotCon 2016? Artist Alley apps will be going up in January, so don’t fret, you’ll get your chance at an application soon! Our musician and panelist applications will be available by the end of this month, while staff applications are currently live on our site.

Oh, and one more thing: we’ll be having a VIP dinner for the Draconequus-tier sponsor badge holders. Our VIPs will be there. Will you? Just a SMALL amount of these badges are still available, so get crackin’, y’all.

Wanna join us? Badges are still available for 2016, with weekend passes running $40 through the end of January. We’ve also got plenty of sponsor badges for sale at various prices, tiers and perks.

TrotCon 2016, our fifth convention, will be held July 15-17, 2016, at the Crowne Plaza Columbus North in Columbus, Ohio.

Crystal Fair!

September 23, 2015 in Other Conventions by rpb3000

Friendship is Magic

Friendship is Magic

As they say, meet me at the Crystal Fair! Peanut Bucker will once again be heading down to St. Louis to hang out with Ravs, Buckwiser, and Flying Spirit at the Crystal Fair! Come drop by Crystal Creations Room A (Conference Room B) to say hi, ask us any of your burning questions about TrotCon and/or Pixel Ponies Gaming, and maybe pre-register for next years’ Trot or pick up some sweet merch!

As if that’s not enticing enough, Starswirl Academy will not only be demo’ing their latest convention build of the game, but also be hosting a panel on the behind-the-scenes work of building a visual novel and general game development (Hi-Score says it’s a must-see!), some of your favorite fandom guests and musicians will be making an appearance (Hobbes Maxwell, The Shake Ups, Pirate Dash, and many more), and we hear that Lee Tockar (the voice of Steven Magnet, Gummy, Spot, and Snips, among others) will be signing autographs and giving brides-to-be anxiety attacks all weekend long. And that’s just the beginning!

Can’t afford to go? Why not volunteer? They’re still looking for help pretty much across the board. Volunteer enough hours of your time, get your badge reimbursed and get a glimpse at the inner workings of a convention. Pretty much win-win, we think.

We’re hype, and you should be too! Hope to see lots of you there!

SPACE!!! and Pixelkitties!

August 10, 2015 in Guest Announcement, Registration, Theme by Darkly

Hey, friends. Got some information for you. You probably know some of it, but not everything. Listen up. Turn off that new Dr. Dre album for like two seconds.

It’s been almost a month since TrotCon 2015 ended — thanks again for coming, you guys are the best — and we’re already gearing up for 2016. We’ve got a venue to talk to, potential guests to call, badges to sell, applications to take very soon… yeah, it’s already getting busy on the old homestead.

Let’s start with what most of you already know: our theme. If you’ve been on our website or seen our social media in the last 24 hours, you’ve already seen the switchover from magic (which we’ll miss! A lot!). What’s this year’s, you ask, as though the posted art wasn’t a dead giveaway?

How’s space sound? Sound good? Aside from the whole no-one-can-hear-you-scream think, that is.

So in 2016, the official theme of TrotCon will be space, as we announced at this year’s closing ceremonies! As with past years, the theme is 100 percent not mandatory; instead, it’s a fun thing for us to consider when we’re planning events and decor, and for you to factor in when you create your cosplays. Get thinking, by the way! 11 months to go!

What we’re possibly most excited about the space theme just has to be how we’re splitting all of you up for 2016, like we did in 2015 with the different houses pertaining to the princesses (Lunaris, Solaris, Eros and Umbra!). This year, there are but two: the Lunar Republic (Luna!) and the Solar Empire (that’ll be Celestia, y’all). Choose wisely your allegiances. They’re gonna mean a lot at this year’s con. More than they ever did in 2015.

Oh, as for the thing you didn’t already know: we have our first guest!
Remember when Pixelkitties, one of the fandom’s most respected artists who came out to TrotCon in 2012, 2013 and 2014, was announced for 2015 but had to cancel? Well, we hoped we could snag her again for 2016 — and guess what? It’s happening. She’s happening! Pixelkitties will head out to TrotCon 2016 not just as a vendor but also as one of our fandom guests. You’ll be able to purchase some of her amazing wares — art, sure, but there’s so much more! — as well as find her around the convention and on a panel or two. Maybe you’ll get into a 30-minute exchange about craft beer, too. It could happen, only on The Hub! (Disclaimer: It can’t happen on The Hub anymore. RIP.)

One last thing: applications for vendors, musicians, panelists and staff are not up yet. But they’re going to be! We’ll let you know when, but they’ll be available in early September at the very latest.
And that’s just the beginning, y’all. More fandom guests. More VIPs. More EVERYTHING! It’s gonna rock.
Sound like fun? Pre-registration for 2016 is now open, with $30 weekend passes available through Sept. 21. That’s three days of pony fun for less money than it’ll be if you buy at the door, even if you buy for only Saturday! Food for thought, eh?

Also, we have a newsletter now. Sign up at http://tinyletter.com/trotcon. You know you wanna.

Big Announcement: TrotCon 2016 and Beyond!

July 26, 2015 in Uncategorized by Darkly

So, it’s been a week since TrotCon 2015 ended. Crazy, right? We think so. Time is weird. A flat circle, even.

We had a downright amazing time with you guys this year. Like, for real — it ruled. And many of you responded in a similar way; after all, we increased our attendance numbers by a whole 20 percent this year, and we even ran out of our usual kids’ badges halfway through because so many little ones came out this year. That’s so cool. It was an absolute joy to put on this event for you and we’re glad the response for TrotCon 2015 was mostly positive. If you gave us a Rotten Tomatoes score, it seems like we’d at least hit the 90s, right? Take that, (fill in new Adam Sandler movie here)!

However, we did want to clear up something incredibly important, and we wanted to get it out there right off the bat: TrotCon 2016 will not be the final TrotCon.

We know, we know, we’re throwing you for a loop, aren’t we? We’re like that high school crush that tells you one thing and then can’t get their #feelings straight the next day. Call us flip-floppers, call us wishy-washy.

Thank you!

July 23, 2015 in Registration, Thank You by Darkly

First and foremost, thanks everyone for a fantastic 2015. We had a blast and we hope you did tooWe got, dare we say it, 20% BIGGER this year. This year, we had 1200 attendees, our best numbers ever. Obviously we can’t do that without you, so thanks for showing up and having a good time with us.

Can we do it next year? Let’s find out! Next year, we’ll be held July 15-17 at the Crowne Plaza Columbus North here in Columbus, Ohio. Y’know, in other words, virtually the same time, same place.

Registration’s already open for 2016! It will be $30 until August 31st. We also have the sponsor tiers available as well. The perks for those will be announced within the next month.
