Katrina Salisbury Is Returning to TrotCon!

May 22, 2020 in Guest Announcement, Registration by Kevin

(art: milkibee)

All right. Let’s get going on 2021.

Last week, we announced that TrotCon 2020 has been canceled and all badges, unless you let us know otherwise, are being moved to 2021 (not requested a refund, rollover or donation yet? Here!). We’re also largely picking up what we had planned for ’20 and moving it into ’21, which includes not just guest announcements but also applications for panels, vendors and the like.

Now, we’re happy to say that we have someone new joining the TrotCon 2021 ranks: please welcome back Katrina Salisbury!

Katrina last attended TrotCon in 2019 and was in talks to return for 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic struck. We’re super thankful that she’s able to stick with us, along with (tentatively!) the rest of our already-announced guest list, for next July.

Unfamiliar? In the My Little Pony world, she’s best known for voicing Yona on My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, something of a fan-favorite role in the closing seasons of the show. She’s also appeared as Nina on Molly of Denali, Angela on Tobot and more!

She joins previously announced VIPs such as Tabitha St. Germain, M.A. Larson, Elley Ray and Claire Corlett, along with a slew of community guests.

Speaking of community guests, we’ve got another TrotCon-related announcement for you. Not so much a new community guest, but… new sponsor perks!

Today we’re revealing three new sponsor tiers: griffin, kirin and batpony!

Now, these tiers are a little different than what you’d normally expect from a TrotCon sponsor badge. Instead of featuring perks more specific to our VIP guests, these snag you perks related to our community guests instead. You’ll have the ability to attend a community guest meet-and-greet during the convention, and you’ll also snag priority access to the non-mane events panel rooms.

Additionally, you’ll get many of the perks generally associated with those price tiers not related to priority mane events access or the VIP meet-and-greets — autograph vouchers, posters, priority vendor hall access, the usual. Our changeling and draconequus tiers will automatically snag the perks associated with these new tiers.

Bit of an experiment here, adding these new tiers! If it works, awesome. If it doesn’t, we’ll cook up something else for 2022, yeah? Some of you have expressed interest in our community guests vs. the VIPs, so this here’s for you.

That’s all for now! Remember that badge sales for 2021 are now available, with a three-day pass running you $55 until we close pre-registration in June 2021.

We’ve got more VIP announcements coming down the pipe, too! Stay tuned.

TrotCon Is Canceled for 2020 — Announcing TrotCon 2021

May 12, 2020 in Hotel, Programming, Registration by Kevin

We’re just gonna cut to the chase. Our usual three-day TrotCon isn’t happening this year.

I know, I know. Some states, including Ohio, are slowly beginning reopening procedures amid the COVID-19 outbreak. We said that we would postpone to later in the year if we needed to. There are still seven-ish months left in the year, so why are you just canceling, etc.

Look, we want to have what was likely to be the biggest TrotCon ever as much as you do. It’s the reason we held off as long as we did before making an official decision.

But with many of you voicing concerns about being able to attend at all this year, plus the fact that we’re going to have attendees this year from across the world, let alone the country, we felt that it was the best decision to protect the health of all attendees to not have an event in July. I mean, have you been to our venue? We love the Crowne Plaza, but unlike some conventions, such as those held in convention centers, there isn’t nearly as much space in which you can move around. Fine enough for pandemic-less times, yes, but iffier when it comes to the measures we’d have to have in place to ensure our attendees’ health.

The nail in the coffin? Our VIP guests did not feel comfortable traveling to TrotCon in July. We want to give you what many of you paid for, and while we know some of you will come to TrotCon no matter the guest and programming situation, we also recognize that some of you are attending with the intent of meeting the people we’d already announced.

Could we have done an event later in the year, when, hopefully, restrictions are more lax? Totally. But it, once again, would not be the same event that we promised you.

As such, think of it this way: we’re picking up TrotCon 2020 and dropping it into 2021.

Next summer, July 16-18, 2021, we’ll be holding the next three-day TrotCon. Its theme will be circus/carnival, and we’re stoked to let you know that ALL of our previously announced community guests have said that they tentatively plan to return. For the record, that’s Foalpapers, RiffPonies, Fiaura the Tank Girl, Keeping Friendship Magic, Scope, Pixelkitties, Volrathxp, Alto Scribe, The Brony Critic and TJ Carson/Pirate Dash. Rawk.

We’re also continuing negotiations with our VIP guests, including some we hadn’t yet announced for 2020, for next year. That’s Tabitha St. Germain, Claire Corlett, M.A. Larson and Elley Ray, by the way. Some are confirmed, while others we’re still working out details with. We hope to have further announcements on ALL of these folks — plus those we haven’t yet announced — by June 9.

Why June 9? Well, that’s where refunds come in.

We realize that some of you will be no longer interested in attending TrotCon in 2021. And we get that. For reals. That’s why for the next four weeks, through the end of the day on June 9, we are offering full refunds to anyone who purchased a ticket for TrotCon 2020. This includes all sponsor badge tiers.

But in order to get a refund, you’ll need to do so by June 9, which is four weeks from today, May 12. After then, our usual refund policy will apply. That, in the majority of circumstances, will mean that refunds won’t be processed.

We do have other options for you, too! You’re more than welcome to — in fact, fingers crossed that ya do — roll over your TrotCon badge for 2020 to 2021. You’re even allowed to donate the cost of your badge to TrotCon to assist us with expenses from the cancellation, whether you plan on attending next year (note: you’ll need to purchase a new badge) or not.

Please note two things. One, if you cancel your badge for ’20 but then opt to purchase a new one for ’21, it will be at the current pre-reg price of $55, barring any sales, regardless of when you bought your badge (such as if you got yours at BronyCon 2019 for the $30 price).

Two, if you do opt to roll over your badge to ’21 OR donate the cost of your badge to the con, you’re gonna get something as thanks, likely picked up at the convention next year or mailed.

For more information on refunds, and to roll over your badge to 2021 or donate the cost, please visit this link.

As unfortunate as it is, this also means our hotel blocks at both the Crowne Plaza and the Ramada are going to be canceled. We were hoping we could roll them over to next year, but our hotel contacts told us this was not possible, mostly due to the change in year.

We know the Crowne Plaza in particular was a bit of a hot commodity this year, so we’re super sorry about that.

To cancel your reservation, the hotels are asking that you cancel the way you booked — so if you called to make one, please call. If you made one online, do so there. Or, ya know, just call in general if you want it done quickly.

When canceling your Crowne Plaza reservation by phone, please call 614-885-1885 and select option #2. When canceling reservations, please ask for TrotCon or reference the 3 letter code AJ2. Please try to do this by May 19, if possible.

If doing so with the Ramada, please call 614-890-8111 and reference TrotCon.

(And, hey, if you want to just go to the Crowne Plaza this July anyway and hang, keep your reservation. No one’s gonna stop ya. Just won’t be an event there. Just, like, let us know if that’s the case so we can make sure your reservation doesn’t get canceled by the hotel anyway.)

We will be reopening our Crowne Plaza hotel block when allowed to do so, which should be sometime in late summer or early fall. Note that we will give everyone a week’s notice in advance so that you can prepare to be online right when it opens, just in case demand is exceptional like it was for 2020. Should we again sell out the Crowne Plaza, we will move to the Ramada as our overflow hotel.

A couple more things here. Lots to unpack. Sorry for the essay.

You’ll note that all applications for panels, musicians and vendors had already closed for 2020. At this moment, we don’t plan to reopen applications for musicians and vendors. If you’re a vendor who’s already heard from us about having a table for 2020, consider that table still in place for ’21, if you want it. If you don’t, please get in contact with us ASAP, and your table fee will be refunded (unfortunately this will mean you don’t be able to get your spot back automatically; you’ll need to contact us if you want back on the waitlist). If you were on the waitlist, consider that still set as well, but give us a shout if you want to be removed.

As for musicians, we’ve already reached out to some of you. If we’ve done so, consider the offer for performing at TrotCon 2021 ALSO still open, tentatively, but for the time being, we’re keeping these on pause until we know a little more about 2021, such as our financials. If you’d like to rescind your application for, let us know.

Is there a possibility these applications — musician and vendor — might be reopened? Yes. But for now, we plan to go with what we already have, and that’ll likely only change if enough say they don’t plan to attend in 2021.

As for panel applications, we’re going to reopen those very briefly later this year, but if you’ve already applied for ’20, you’re set, no need to reapply. As before, if you want to rescind your application, please let us know.

Staff applications? Still open. We had planned to make further decisions on those in March, but once COVID-19 started spreading and the future of the con in July was in question, we held off on making any decisions. We’re going to stick to that until later this year. Community guest applications are in the same boat — still open, and we’ll reach out if we think there’s a doable match. (As before, consider your application open until we reach out — in both scenarios!)

Two more things! Firstly, we’re currently looking into the idea of doing an online event in late summer, no earlier than our original dates (July 17-19), similar to what Babscon did last weekend and what other online-only conventions have accomplished during quarantine. We’re ALSO open to the possibility of an in-person event later this year in Columbus that would allow us to get together on a smaller scale (a one- or two-day event), likely with no VIPs, should the global situation allow. More info on both of those as we have it.

Is that it? That might be it. But chances are you have some questions for us about which we haven’t even thought. If that’s the case, we invite you to contact us any way you know how — social media, email, Discord, wherever. We’ll get your question taken care of as soon as possible.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding here, and we apologize for any and all inconvenience. Again, if you wanna wash your hands of the whole thing, refunds are available. But we’ve got a lot of big plans for ’20 that are now being moved to ’21, and with more time, we think we can make next year even better than before. So we’re hoping you’ll stick with us!

Anyway, don’t come to TrotCon. Until next year.

Final Guest of Honor Announcement and Badge Sale!

May 25, 2019 in Guest Announcement, Registration by Darkly

Just when you thought we couldn’t have anything else up our sleeves, BAM! The Great and Powerful Trixie has helped us become the Great and Powerful TrotCon! And one of her finer tricks has been bestowed upon us. The VIP summoning special finale! Now sit back and be amazed!

Let me just…
Okay I think this goes here…
Aha! Behold! We bring forth upon the most generous patrons of our humble BUT GREAT convention… A YAK!

Introducing Katrina Salisbury!!! (Yes, like the steak)

Ms. Salisbury is a fairly prolific voice actor for being so young. She’s been in multiple animations including Kiznaiver, Tooth and Tail, and Tobot! However, we here in Ponyland, U.S.A. know this young Canadian actress as Yona the Yak! She’s not just a terror on the mic for voice acting, either. This intrepid young star also tears up the mic on Overwatch in her spare time, albeit probably with a different vocabulary than she has in My Little Pony. *Ahem* Anyway, come on out and join the crowd so you can truly experience for yourself that Yona is best!

And lastly we would like to do one last badge sale in honor of our final guest of honor for 2019! Use the code yaksmash to get 20% off Regular-Alicorn tier badges until June 2nd! To apply the code to your order select your badges on page 1 of registration, then go to page 2, at the bottom of page 2 there will be a spot to apply the code.

Our Final 2018 Guest of Honor Announcement!

June 17, 2018 in Guest Announcement, Registration by Darkly

Well, here we are. Have you guessed our new guests? Time to find out if you were right!

TrotCon is proud to present:

Lauren Jackson and Kyle Rideout! You may know them better as the voices of Silverstream and Thorax!

Lauren comes to us from the beautiful Canadian city of Vancouver, which seems to be a literal magnet for excellent voice talent. She loves the beach, and Silverstream is a hippogriff, so swimming on down to TrotCon is a perfect match. It also happens to be her first guest appearance at a con, ever, so welcome her with open arms and show her how friendship is not only magic, but pure AWESOME!

Kyle also hails from Vancouver (see, VA magnet, I’m tellin’ ya…). In addition to Thorax, the changeling that changed everything, you may also know him as Vinnie in Littlest Pet Shop, among other varied roles in animation and even film (yeah, he knows Deadpool, what of it?). He’s ready to experience what TrotCon has to offer, so don’t disappoint!

Things are shaping up for some excellent fun beneath the waves! It’s getting so close! I’m so excited! Are you so excited? It’s gonna happen! Swim on down to TrotCon. Tons of fun for everyone!

In honor of this announcement Sponsor Badge registration has been extended until June 22nd and regular pre-registration has been extended until June 29th.

Second Guest for 2018!

January 21, 2018 in Guest Announcement, Registration by Darkly

We’re very excited about this guest because we’ve decided to continue the trend of guests we have never before seen at TrotCon. She’s a marvelous addition to the My Little Pony family and she’s eager to get out there to conventions. She voices a handful of changelings but her mane character is Mistmane! She’s one of the Pillars of Equestria and we are welcoming her to TrotCon 2018. She is the wonderful and talented Elley-Ray! Her soul is as beautiful as her character’s and we’re really looking forward to her bringing more beauty to our convention than we already have.

Here’s a fun game. She has a beautiful signature and she’d love to put it on your memorabilia. So, we propose, you find something she’s been besides My Little Pony, in addition to MLP, of course, and bring it to her to have that signed as well. She has numerous NUMEROUS credits to her name and it will be a blast to bring to her some of the work she’s done in the past! But, don’t forget, Mistmane is a Pillar and we’re likely to see more of her in future seasons so get her signature on your Mistmane possessions conveniently at TrotCon 2018!

We would also like to remind you the registration rate for a weekend badge will be going up to $55 starting on January 31st. Hurry up and get it at the $45 rate before its too late!

Announcing our First Guest for 2018!

November 9, 2017 in Guest Announcement, Registration by Darkly

You know, we at TrotCon have been thinking a lot about magic lately. From the smallest levitation spell to the mightiest terrain altering princess lasers, all magic in Equestria is important and it comes in many forms.

We’ve taken a keen interest in one of the most unique practitioners of magic in all of Equestria, the beloved Zecora! She has been with us since season one episode nine, “Bridle Gossip”. With thinking about beloved characters, we can’t help but think of their beloved voice actors. That’s when we realized, we’ve never seen Brenda Crichlow!

So now, wait no longer, for the beloved and wonderful voice of Zecora is coming to TrotCon 2018! She will bring a bright and lovely personality to our humble convention. We look forward to seeing you there with us!

To celebrate our first guest announcement for 2018 use the code “1stVIP” to get 10% off badges until 15th! Our online store is also having  a sale: spend $12 or more to get 15% off your order.

Applications and Hotel Rooms

September 30, 2017 in Hotel, Registration by Darkly

Good news for all of you who’ve been rearin’ and ready to go since the end of last year’s TrotCon to get your applications in for 2018 — EVERYTHING is now up and ready to go!

That’s right, everything! We’re talking panelist apps, musician apps, artist/vendor apps, staff apps! Anything and everything you could want to do at TrotCon 2018 is now yours for the taking.

Each application is available above, under the registration tab if you want to apply for anything. We can always use a little more help on the staff end, and those other categories are literally what keeps us going — awesome programming, great music and superb art and trinkets to buy (or just, ya know, stand nearby and admire).

We’ve also got our hotel room block for 2018 available, so get right on that if you’re looking to stay at the Crowne Plaza Columbus North, our 2018 venue, among other attendees of TrotCon. We’re talking $99 a night. That’s cool, right? Nice. Click the venue tab above to get to the link provided to get the room rate!

Hm. Is that it? Think that’s it. Relatively short announcement, y’all! Now, uh, go. Fly. Be free. Apply for things at TrotCon. Come to TrotCon. Woo.

TrotCon 2018

July 25, 2017 in comic, Registration, Thank You, Theme by Darkly

2017 was kind of the best.

Just a little over a week ago, we converged yet again on Columbus, Ohio, for the sixth year in a row. And y’all, it was killer. Over 900 attendees, a couple thousand dollars raised for charity, amazing panel programming from guests and non-guests alike, an exciting concert, a fire alarm (because of course), probably the best vendor hall we’ve ever been able to organize — like, what?! How does this keep happening?

Oh, that’s right. Because of y’all. This thing where, y’know, the attendees of TrotCon are the absolute best folks any of us could ask for. We got lucky, really. Goodness.

So, uh, let’s do it again.

If you attended the closing ceremonies of 2017, you’ll recall that not only did we announce that TrotCon 2018 was happening, we also revealed its theme: under the sea! Underwater! Seaponies! You know, that sort of thing. We’d say sky’s the limit, but that sort of defeats the idea of a convention themed around water, right?

Well, now we’re ready to officially announce that convention. TrotCon 2018 will be held July 20-22, 2018, at the Crowne Plaza Columbus North in Columbus, Ohio!

It’s true! In just under a year, we’ll be back at the same venue and same general time in the summer to give ya some more pony-centric programming that focuses on the My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic TV show and its vibrant fandom alike. Do we know who will be coming yet as guests? Uh, well, no, but stay tuned. We’ve got ya covered soon.

But to commemorate the announcement of TrotCon 2018, we’re happy to reveal that pre-registration is now open!

Beginning now and running through Sept. 10, you can snag a weekend pass (Friday-Sunday) to TrotCon 2018 for just $35! We’ve also got our sponsor badges up and running, starting at earth tier ($100) through draconequus (a limited number as always, at $2,000!). As with last year, we also have a spirit badge option available on our website for anyone who can’t attend TrotCon but would still like to donate to our little convention (and get something in return!). And as always, kids 12 and under are TOTALLY FREE with the purchase of an adult badge!

You probably want to know the other pre-reg details, right? So, after the initial $35 weekend price, we’ll bump things up $10 to $45 between Sept. 11 and Jan. 31, followed by $55 from Feb. 1 to June 22. After that, just like 2017, weekend badges will be available at the door for $60, along with single-day passes for $30 (Friday), $40 (Saturday) and $20 (Sunday).

Oh, right, factions, too! Well, after what we thought was a highly successful year having three different factions for 2017 — Stable Dweller, Raider and Steel Ranger — we’re gonna stick with three yet again.

This time around: Sea Pony, Hippocampus, Kraken.

All right. Choose your destiny, yeah?

In the meantime, that just about does it! We wanted to get a-movin’ on 2018 as soon as we could, and that involves getting tickets available for y’all sooner rather than later. We’re also, of course, incredibly stoked to share the art for 2018 from AylaStarDragon, our official convention artist. Ain’t it great? *insert my longest ‘yeah boy’ ever*

Speaking of Ayla’s work, remember the comic from 2017? The one that was turned into an absolutely stellar animation by Harmony Studios? Well, she’s doing another. Keep an eye out.

Questions about 2018? Concerns about 2017? Just wanna talk? Drop us a line on social media or via info@trotcon.net! Otherwise, we’ll be back really soon to discuss some more things TrotCon-related, including our first guests for 2018!

Anyway, shoo-be-doo. And come to TrotCon. You get it by now.

Community Guest Announcements!

June 9, 2017 in Guest Announcement, Programming, Registration by Darkly

Each year, TrotCon is chock full of some killer community guests who are doing some really cool things in the fandom, and 2017 is no different.

After all, we’ve already announced our share of special guests who you’ll be able to meet at TrotCon 2017, including Harmony Studios, ChocoPony, TheBronyCritic, TJ Carson and the folks of Pony 411. Business as usual, ya know?

Y’all ready to double that list, though?

Cool, because that’s exactly what’s about to happen.

With our final major community guest announcement push for 2017, we’d like to announce the following:

Fire Team Harmony! Y’all’ve seen them around TrotCon for a bit now as well as other pony conventions across the country, and this year we’re vaulting them up a notch to VIP status. Righteous, yeah? Check out these fandom-beloved cosplayers around the convention, say hi, even check ’em out at their own panels!

DaThings1! We’ve had Luke/DaThing1, purveyor of some of the best YouTube Poops this side of the Mississippi (or west of it… just anywhere, really). Well, he’s back again, and this time he’s got the third installment of the “Wow! It’s Made” series to show off, along with how-tos and other demonstrations. Get ready to laugh.

Joe Dyer! Ya boy is known as volrathxp on FIMfiction, where he wrote the popular fic ‘Fallout Equestria: Starlight’ (and since our theme is post-apocalyptic… well, ya know), among others. He’ll be on hand to discuss fan fiction, side fiction and much more. Writers, you’re gonna want to get in on his stuff.

Hobbes Maxwell! A longtime member of our vendor hall (where he’ll be again this year, naturally), Hobbes is on hand (hoof? Ugh, this horse pun stuff gets tiring after six year, y’all) for multiple panels and events, including some of our after-dark content in the wee hours of the morning. C’mon, ingest a Red Bull or two and stay up late. Worth. It.

WeimTime! A last-minute addition to our panel programming last year (so late, he wasn’t even in the conbook or online schedule), we’ve got WeimTime back this year and part of our community guest roster this time around. Learn from the owner of the highly successful YouTube channel and business of the same name, which is known for its animation as well as the Synthesia and WeimTime Plays online series, and take a trip down memory line with his Nostalgia Time panel.

Robin from My Little Robin! You know the dude from the My Little Robin: Reviewing Is Magic series? Yeah, we got the heck outta him for TrotCon 2017. He’ll be doing a live episode of the show as well as throwing a bit of a party commemorating four years of reviewing ponies on the internet. Aspiring reviewer? Good guy to check out.

We’re also excited to welcome back the Traveling Pony Museum, who’s been at every TrotCon since the beginning. Catch ’em in the vendor hall or in their own room with an assortment of awesome pony-related wares from the beginning of the fandom’s lifetime to now!

Whole lotta exclamation points up there. Hope y’all got that.

We’re also officially announcing our musician lineup for 2017! How about that?

If you follow us on Twitter, you’ve already seen this, but for those of you who don’t (ya should! @TrotCon), let’s get ya a list:

We’ve got Chang31ing and Goggles for the fifth (FIFTH!) year! MogulDash for a fourth! They’re all alongside multiple other performers who’ve been with us in the past, including PonyFireStone, IvoryBrony, end_of_file, R3CTIFIER and JESUSKIDZ. And then we’ve got our rookies: Luck Rock, Versal, DJ Rod, Fennec Faux and Iggy the Kidd.

13 musicians, folks. How can we contain ’em all? Oh, that’s right: by expanding to TWO NIGHTS of performances this year! We’ll be hosting a short, later-hours set on Friday to get you warmed up for the big event Saturday.

And then, y’know, the musician panel on Sunday, like usual. We are nothing if not creatures of habit.

Let’s see. One last thing.

Oh, right: our pre-registration for 2017 closes soon! In fact, sponsor badges for 2017 are over and done with on June 14, followed by weekend badges on June 20. After that point, you won’t be able to purchase a badge for 2017 until the con itself, at the door and for a larger price.

You really aren’t gonna want to miss out. This is important.
